Ending Week 84

Okay, so I missed another measure-in.  Bah.  Trying to get accustomed to working full-time for the first time ever.  I love it, but certain things are falling by the wayside.  Thankfully we have a 10,000 step challenge going on for the next 6 weeks, so at least the fact that I keep ending up going out to lunch isn’t going to ruin everything as thoroughly as it might.  My weight is holding steady surprisingly well (well, during the past 2 months–I realize I’m still higher overall.)  Too bad I need to drop 5 pounds still to get back to where I was before LA.

76 Weeks Down

Oh how the mighty have fallen.  I’d blame vacation, but really the downfall had started before that point.  I reached my preliminary goal, and soon some of my bad eating habits started cropping up.  Things improved for a few weeks while I was working 2 part-time jobs, but then one of them disappeared just before my vacation.  I came back and was working random hours, was discouraged about being so underemployed, and my routine was totally off from being in Los Angeles for a week.

I started my new job mid-way through last week.  It’s going to give me structure, but it also gave me food for a few days due to training sessions.  I forgot what it meant to turn down that which was not needed, to eat only in moderation what I chose to eat anyway.  It’s a bit of an eye opener to see how different I am eating now than a year ago.  A year ago I would have carefully selected only the fruit, and would have turned away the pastries.  Or I would have had the breakfast sandwich (had some protein to it) but only one.  This year, I found myself lacking control.  Actually, it was lacking the desire to control.  It was there yesterday too.  I found myself thinking, “Well, Monday’s going to truly start work, so I’ll get back on track then.”  Then I realized the fallacy in that statement, and chose to start at that moment.  Granted, that moment was after I’d already had too much, but still, I didn’t say “wait until Monday.”  Today, we got groceries and I stocked up on fruit and my old standbys of yogurt and nuts.  I didn’t get ice cream sandwiches, Kashi bars, etc.  I don’t need those.  True, I can have the occasional treat, but it can’t be every other night.  My body needs fruit, it doesn’t need ice cream sundaes.

So anyway, I kept better track of my food today.  I’m starting to get a smidge bit hungry right now, but that’s simply too bad.  It’s 9 o’clock (I am backsetting the time on this, because I like it to be standard and be before the day’s food consumption), and I’m returning to my old rule of no food after 9.  I’m hoping that I’ll have the courage to set it back to 8:30 and eventually 8:00 after I get used to it again.  I’ve got to get my body readjusted though.  It’s gone totally off track.

In the end, it’s time to set a new goal.  I did reach my preliminary goal of 130 pounds, and much faster than I imagined.  So now, my goal is 120.  I’m small enough in stature (and bone structure) that that shouldn’t be too thin at all.  I’ve been as close as 126 and still had some weight to lose in my problem areas, so I think I’ll set the harder goal and go for it.  Because without anywhere to go, I think I’ll be back to spinning my wheels.  Work should help a lot though.  It’s full-time, and since I take my lunch, it helps to control my consumption at lunch time.  Besides, not really supposed to snack at our desks, so that pretty much precludes most of my most rampant binges.  I’ll still eat out from time to time, but I shouldn’t jump on those opportunities to gorge, but rather to have a small portion of something that tastes good and is good for my body as well.

68 Weeks Down

A little extra exercise here and there (hello, EA Active) seems to be assisting in keeping me from bouncing up after a couple of days of more lax eating.  Then again, I can’t be perfect all of the time, either.  Weekends I’m no longer nearly as strict, and I’m even allowing myself to eat lunch out twice a month during the week at places where I don’t know the exact calories.  I’m a bit happier, although I need to be careful to focus a bit better too.  Can’t allow that to start slipping out of my control either.  In a few weeks will be my ultimate test.  I’ll be on vacation, no access to the Internet.  If I can do well at that (while still enjoying the variety of never-before-tasted foods surrounding me) then I’ll truly know I’m going to make it.

A frustrating month, as my hard work paid off, but it isn’t visible due to a bad day yesterday and some overall digestive problems as last week ended (due to poor diet).  Oh well!

60 Weeks Down

Rough month this month, really.  Much of it was out of my control, and what wasn’t, I was a bit too tired to care about.  First off was a stomach virus that did me in a for a couple of days.  While I lost everything I ate, I also had to really lighten my exercise.  Not to mention that once it was over, I ate a bit uncontrollably for awhile (too tired to care…)  Then there was a family gathering, and by the time we got there through two hours of heavy rain and pulling onto a road that looked liked it washed away and into a dumpy building that was so loud you couldn’t hear yourself think, well, I ate. And ate and ate and ate. Bleh.  Then the following weekend I got a cold, so for about two weeks I couldn’t exercise very much.  I was also eating more, but it wasn’t affecting my weight.  However, once I pretty much cleared up, I was just tired and grumpy from it all, and didn’t control my eating.  So yeah, that’s where I’m at.  Next month includes a wedding, but I’ve never found those to be binge-worthy affairs (I think I’ve only managed to hold out for the food once at a wedding, the rest of the times I’ve given up waiting on the bride and groom to finally arrive that I’ve taken off.)  Plus the weather is getting nicer, so here’s hoping to an improved month and a better attitude for taking care of myself again.

56 Weeks Down

This was a much better month than the previous few have been.  I got myself back under control pretty well with my eating.  Plus, I went shopping!  Nothing like shopping to get myself feeling great again.  Slipping into size 5 dresses and small and medium tops just helps me remember how far I’ve come and how much I’ve been able to do.  That, and I’ve been feeling happier now that I’ve got the eating calmed down a bit (and have been going after a bit more fruit again.)

48 Weeks Down

Another 4 weeks have passed.  I’m pretty much in maintenance mode at this point.  Sure, maybe I’ll get down to 125, but as long as I avoid exceeding 130 ever again, I’m perfectly content.  I do have some more toning to do though.  I purchased a workout video (as mentioned at week 44) that has been a nice addition to my usual workout.  For awhile this month I was doing double workouts.  That wore me out a bit too much, but it was fun while it lasted.  Now I’m moving away from a full day off.  If I’ve got the energy, I might as well at least ride or something, even if only at half speed.

Really not much to say this month, so let’s just keep things rolling with the stats.

44 Weeks Down

Once again, a holiday thwarted me a bit. During the week of Christmas, I was down to about 127 pounds most days, but with the nibbling I allowed on Christmas Day, I bounced up a couple of pounds. But thankfully holidays are done for me (only allowing myself to go crazy on Thanksgiving and Christmas–New Year’s Eve doesn’t count), so I should be getting back on track again soon. Plus, I’ll be getting rid of all of the leftover cookies and candies we made tomorrow, hopefully. There’s really not just that much left…maybe I should just go ahead and pitch them after my husband’s had his fill. The turtles and truffles are stronger temptation than I’d like to have around (although I’m doing well with ignoring the cookies.)

I bought a workout DVD yesterday that I’m very pleased with. It’s Jillian Michaels’ 30 Day Shred, and today I certainly feel like I’ve been through a shredder! I’m hoping it will add some balance into my routine without me having to join a gym (because that’s just not going to happen.) I certainly felt it as I did it, so that’s a good sign.

But anyway, let’s move onto stats. I still need to workout this morning.

40 Weeks Down

Ah, this was a bit of a frustrating 4 weeks.  Not that I didn’t do well, I did.  On Thanksgiving morning (and a day or two before as well), I was down to 129 pounds.  Alas, Thanksgiving fell just 3 days before my official weigh in, so it stunted my results a bit overall.  It’s a little disappointing, but at the same time, maybe not.  After all, it was one day that I allowed myself such freedom, and I have absolutely nothing to feel guilty about.  I ate quite a bit, but I didn’t overeat, and when it came to the “nibbling” part of the day, I satisfied myself with delicious blackberries rather than cookies or additional pieces of pie.  I will do the same on Christmas Day, which will likely have similar results on my measurement day next month, but that’s okay.

This month has been really good even if my weight is only down 1 pound in the end.  After all, I’ve found that I wear size 6 pants.  Now that’s an achievement!  I’ve never worn clothing that small.  When I went shopping, I also found myself buying medium and small tops, which was also quite wonderful.  Even with the stunted weight loss (all the more disappointing given how low I had gotten before Thanksgiving), I still feel this was a good month overall, and once classes end next week I’ll be able to put more into my workouts, making up for some lost time over the past month.  I really haven’t exercised nearly as hard this month, and I think increasing back to my normal level and beyond once I have some free time again will really push me closer to goal.

36 Weeks Down

The past week has been really great for me. I’ve started sort of doubling my work out most days by doing my usual, and then taking a walk with my husband in addition to that. It’s felt great, helped to get rid of a few pounds that had crept back around for a couple of days, and it made me feel much less guilty when I had some candy on Halloween. It was the first time I’d eaten candy since February, I think. I know I’ve had a few sweets between when I started and now (a couple of cookies early on, a marshmallow, a brownie, and part of a chocolate tiramisu when celebrating a birthday), but I’d been careful to steer clear of candy, and it made it taste all that more special when I had it. It was delicious, but when I was done, I was done. Didn’t really want anymore.

So now, I’m technically 2 pounds away from my goal. However, I have decided to decrease my goal a bit. I look so much better, but I think another 5 pounds past the goal (going to about 125) might be slightly better. I’ve still got a lot of baggage clinging to my upper thighs and my lower tummy that I’d like to be rid of before I head into maintenance mode. But still, I’m incredibly happy, and once I hit 130 and stay there, I will likely start at least slowly getting my new wardrobe, because very few things I own still actually fit all that well.
